Katarina Witt first began to skate at the age five. Soon, her talents became apparent and she was accepted to Karl-Marx Stadt's special schools. They was introduced to Jutta Muller here. Witt was able to make her mark in the second position she placed at the 1982 World Championships, held in Copenhagen. Her grace and elegance captured everybody's eye immediately, and from that point onwards she was dominating the game. Olympic victory Katarina Wit won gold in ice skating for women at the Sarajevo Winter Games 1984 after an intensely competitive contest. The following year she took home an even tighter contest. While she was unable to win the free-skating competition, the gold medal was awarded to her efforts on the compulsory figures, as well as on the program in short form. Witt became the women's first repeated winner of figure skating, following Sonja Henie. Hall of Fame Witt was allowed to resume skating after her accomplishments in the film industry as an actor. She took part in the Lillehammer Winter Games, 1994. She placed seventh but enchanted the crowd even though she didn't win a medal. Witt was inducted to the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame in the year 1995.
